When generating your astrology chart, you may find yourself with a scary mess of circles, symbols, numbers, and lines. This may be intimidating at first but in reality, this is a map. Consider the center area, the location you were born.

The outer wheel containing the zodiac symbols looks similar to a clock you would see on the wall. It is important to remember the constellations do move but it is incredibly gradual, only one degree per human lifetime. They are almost fixed points in a way, it is more that the planets move and the earth moves that changes a person's chart.

The symbols you see within the circle that appear to dot the inner edges at random are planets and asteroids. It is important to remember these chart the location of each planet when you are born, they are mapped out objects that move as time goes on.

Some of these figures may be familiar such as the Venus and Mars signs using the traditional male and female symbols. I will provide a key of these symbols and the planets they represent.

Now the numbers lining the center represent the houses. These move with the earth depending on the time of day. The first house relates to the horizon where the sun rises. This directly corelates with where you were on the earth and the time at which you were born. The 10th house relates to where the sun would be at highest point during the middle of the day. The houses 2-6 are below the horizon. The 7th house is located at the point where sun sets on the horizon. The following houses 8-12 are above the horizon. Its is important to know that there are many different ways to draw out these lines. I only use Placidus when it comes to interpreting charts as it typically yields the most accurate results in my own experience. Other information on systems of houses can be found within this linked article http://www.quadibloc.com/other/as01.h

This is a simple chart missing many planets and asteroids. It is only a basic Example.

Now that we have a basic understanding of where this scary looking chart map comes from, we can identify our placements.

Placements can be identified based on where the planets are located on the inner area of the astrology wheel.

You can see from the above chart that this person has Venus in the sign Libra. The Venus symbol is within the area on the astrology wheel that libra takes up. If we look to see what house section this planet lies in, we can see that Venus is also in the 9th house. This person has Venus in Libra in the 9th house.

We can also easily Identify Mars being in Cancer in the 8th house. This symbols of these planets may be difficult to memorize but most generated charts will also supply a key stating what the placements are anyways.

Once we understand what our placements are, we can start to interpret them. We interpret them using what we know of that sign. The sign's energy, symbolism, and various associations. We do the same with the house sign.

I will be delving into houses vs signs in another article later on.
