An astrological sign rules each astrological house. The houses and signs correlate with the order in which the signs occur. Each sign is also ruled by a planet, which in turn also rules the related house. I have listed the signs, their ruling planets, and their corresponding houses below.

  1. Mars rules Aries, which rules the 1st house

  2. Venus rules Taurus, which rules the 2nd house

  3. Mercury rules Gemini, which rules the 3rd house

  4. The Moon rules Cancer, which rules the 4th house

  5. The Sun rules Leo, which rules the 5th house

  6. Mercury also rules Virgo, which rules the 6th house

  7. Venus also rules Libra, which rules the 7th house

  8. Mars (traditional) & Pluto (modern) rule Scorpio, which rules the 8th house

  9. Jupiter rules Sagittarius, which rules the 9th house

  10. Saturn rules Capricorn, which rules the 10th house

  11. Saturn(traditional) & Uranus(modern) both rule Aquarius which rules the 11th house

  12. Jupiter (Traditional) & Neptune(modern) rule Pisces which rules the 12th house

I like to think of the relationships between planets and the signs they rule like a parent and a child. The planet decides how it wants its sign to grow up and what values they want to retain. In turn, the planet rules both the sign and the house the sign lives in. These houses are more like pieces and parts of an individual's life. We are complicated beings, so if you are feeling confused, that would be a normal reaction to this mess.

The difference between an astrological sign and the planet it rules is that the sign is the personality archetype, and a house is a location or area of life. A person with Virgo in the 4th house will act like and seek out Virgo characteristics in areas of life that correlate with the 4th house.
